Dr. James W. Sinden Scholarship Fund
In the Study of Commercially Cultivated Edible Fungi
The Dr. James W. Sinden Scholarship fund was established in 1980 when Dr. James W. Sinden was honored by the U.S. mushroom industry, celebrating his Golden Anniversary, for 50 years of service to the mushroom industry.
Dr. Sinden contributed numerous innovations to the industry during this time such as successfully introducing synthetic compost, grain spawn, short composting in narrow piles that could be mechanically turned, the concept of phases one and two of composting and the use of fungicides for the control of fungus diseases.
The Dr. James W. Sinden Scholarship was created exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. Its funds shall be utilized to provide scholarship grants and other financial aid to assist students pursuing degrees beyond the baccalaureate level at an accredited college or university within the United States in a field of study involving the technical and scientific aspects of commercially cultivated edible fungi.
Applications will be accepted until April 1st of each year. Send email to: MushroomNews@kennett.net for more information or to request an application.
